Every person’s path through health care is different. We make sure the information along that path is clear, accessible, and human.
It started with one Journey and grew into a mission for all.

Somer Stanley is an accessibility strategist, educator, and former ASL interpreter with over 15 years of experience advancing inclusive practices for marginalized communities.
She is the founder and CEO of Nclusive Scan, a health equity initiative that converts printed and digital content into plain language, audio, and ASL using QR codes and APIs.
Somer also founded MyASLTeacherROCKS, a national training platform for interpreters and service providers. She continues to mentor professionals across sectors, with her work driving innovation and advocacy to make access the standard, not the exception.

For Somer, the mission is deeply personal. In 2019, her one-year-old daughter, Journey, was diagnosed with bilateral retinoblastoma, resulting in the removal of her right eye and the use of a prosthetic. Somer’s lived experience as a parent, combined with her expertise in interpreting and accessibility consulting, fuels the heart-centered innovation behind Nclusive Scan.

When my daughter Journey was diagnosed with eye cancer, I realized how much critical health information is written in ways families can’t actually use. Even with my background in accessibility, I struggled. That experience became the seed for Nclusive Scan—so no family would ever feel lost like I did.
From healthcare providers and businesses to government agencies and investors. Nclusive Scan helps each deliver accessible information that drives trust, equity, and impact.
Jargon and literal translations make materials confusing. Patients can’t understand instructions or make informed decisions.
Lack of sign language or text inaccessible to people with low vision. Deaf or visually diverse patients are left out.
Materials written above average reading levels. Older adults or under-resourced communities struggle to comprehend instructions.
Parents, patients, and caregivers drown in dense information. Stress, mistakes, delayed care, poor outcomes.
Today, Nclusive Scan empowers healthcare and community organizations to communicate clearly and inclusively, ensuring information is accessible to every family.

Most health materials are written at a level that’s out of reach for the very people who need them most. Medical jargon, inaccessible formats, and unclear instructions create invisible walls. For someone learning about a diagnosis, managing medication, or navigating treatment options, those walls can turn into detours or dead ends.
Nclusive Scan removes barriers by transforming complex content into formats anyone can understand and use.
Break systemic barriers tied to education, income, and language for marginalized communities.
